Step 1. Once you've printed out the template onto a thick paper or thin card use your ruler and scoring tool of your choice. We're using a tiny ball scoring tool, but you could also use a bone tool. Line up your ruler on each side of the cracker with the little arrows and score across the cracker design.

Step 2. Using your craft knife cut around all the cut lines, including the diamond in center.

Step 3. Now you have your cracker cut out you'll want to fold along all the score lines you had to give your cracker it's shape. I find it best to fold first along the longer length of the cracker.

You can then fold the part with the diamonds. You want to the center of the diamond to fold into the cracker. (You can see how to do this in the video above).

Step 4. Now you're cracker is starting to take shape add some glue or double sided tape onto the tabs at the side (these are marked glue) and fold the cracker in half so the sides meet. If using glue leave this to dry before opening up your cracker.

Step 5. You can then take a piece of ribbon or twine, around 30cm long and seal up one end, before adding in a gift of your choice. If you want to personalise your cracker you can use the tag we provided on the template, just write on the name of your guest and attach this to your 2nd piece of ribbon before tying up the other end.

Extra Step. Now one of the most fun things with crackers is when they create that distinctive banging sound. You can add this into the cracker with some cracker snaps which are available from craft stores or online. Just glue the snap into the cracker on each side before gluing it together.

It's as easy as that! Now you have your own fun DIY crackers to share at Christmas or use as fun gift boxes or even decorations. We really hope you'll enjoy creating your own Christmas crackers using our printable templates.
