Sending Wedding Save the Date Cards

June 25, 2018

If you are starting to plan your wedding, save the dates are a great way to share your news with friends and family and let them know the date and possibly the location of your wedding. This then allows you time to plan all the details that would go into your wedding invitations knowing that your guests can already start to make plans.

Wedding invitations usually go out around 4-6 months before your wedding, so save the dates allow you to give your guests plenty of notice, and are especially useful if you are getting married during the school holidays or over a bank holiday as people usually book trips away during this time. They are also useful if you are getting married abroad. They allow your guests lots of notice, long before the wedding invitations go out, giving them plenty of time to prepare and save if need be.

Save the dates are usually quite an informal glimps into your wedding. They usually only include your first names, but they give a sneak peak into the type of theme or colours you have chosen. You can then elaborate more of your theme within your more formal wedding invitation, which also includes the main details and any guest information they might need.

When Should I send out my save the dates?

Save the dates usually go out around 12 - 9 months before your wedding, but it is entirely up to you as everyone has different amounts of time when planning their wedding. A really popular way to send them out is to plan for them to be posted out and arrive exactly 1 year to the date, as that is the date that will be special to you.

Do I send them to my evening guests?

Save the dates are usually just sent to your day guests. Guests invited to the evening celebration don't usually need to get a day off of work and you don't want to allow for any confusion in them thinking they are invited to the whole day. That said I have created 'Save the Evening' cards before so its really down to you and your wedding and what you would prefer.

What type of Save the Date should I choose?

Just like invitations save the dates come in many styles, designs, sizes and finishes. But its important to choose a design that reflects you and your wedding. You could have simple cards that your guests can slot into their diary, or why not get one of our designs printed onto a magnet, so that they can be reminded every time they go to the fridge.

Take a look at our Save the Dates gallery on our website to get some different ideas, or if you have a design in mind just let us know and we can design something for you.

Fingerprint trees are a great alternative to a traditional guest book. They allow your guests to create a unique piece of art, which you can then keep, to remember all the guests that shared your special day with you.
